Chief Researcher of the Department of Archaeology of the Middle Ages. Doctor of Historical Sciences, Academician of the NAS RK.
In 1979-1984, he studied at the Historical Faculty of the Shymkent Pedagogical Institute.
In 1984, after graduation, he was sent as a Senior Researcher to the Otrar State Archaeological Reserve-Museum.
In 1987, he was a Researcher of the Department of Monument Protection of the South Kazakhstan Regional Museum of Local History.
In 1991, he headed the Department of History, Archaeology and Ethnography of the South Kazakhstan Regional Museum of Local History.
In 1993, he defended the dissertation for the degree of Candidate of Historical Sciences on the topic "Historical and local history activity of A. Divaev".
In 2000, he headed the archaeological expedition of Auezov South Kazakhstan State University, he became an Associate Professor of the Department "History of Kazakhstan and Museum Studies".
In 2002-2006., he headed the Department of "Archaeology and Ethnology" of Auezov South Kazakhstan State University.
In 2007, he became a director of the Research Center "Archaeology" of the Auezov South Kazakhstan State University.
In 2008, he defended a dissertation for the degree of Doctor of Historical Sciences on the topic "Ancient and medieval Ispijab".
– He was a Deputy Director of the Margulan Institute of Archaeology of the Committee of Science of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
In 2010-2021, he was a Director General of the Margulan Institute of Archaeology of the Committee of Science of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
In 2012, he became a corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
In 2017, he became an Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
An archaeologist with many years of experience dealing with the problems of urbanization and the emergence of urban culture in Kazakhstan. He made a significant contribution to the preservation and study of the historical and cultural heritage of Kazakhstan. He has a number of recognized discoveries made in archaeological science. For the first time, he discovered a Bronze Age settlement on the territory of the foothills of the northwestern Tien Shan, where the dynamics of urbanization processes in Kazakhstan for three thousand years has been traced. Scientists, through archaeological research, have established the 2200-year-old age of the city of Shymkent. The historical topography of the ancient Ispijab is investigated. He also discovered and explored the mausoleums of the Kazakh batyrs of Saryarka. Their anthropological and ethno-cultural affiliation is proved. Specializes in theoretical problems of ethnic history and economic and cultural development of the population of ancient and medieval Kazakhstan. Among the discoveries he made in the archaeology of Southern Kazakhstan, there are settlements of the Bronze Age of the Karzhantau type and ancient metallurgical workshops of the Boraldai gorge.
Fundamental works on the archaeology of Kazakhstan have been prepared. He takes an active part in the implementation of grant and program-targeted financing projects of the CS of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan. He is an author and co-author of many publications and monographs on the archaeology of ancient and medieval Kazakhstan.
