Rescue excavations

One of the most priority areas of the research activities at the A. Kh. Margulan Institute of Archaeology is the preservation of historical and cultural heritage. In this context, the Institute’s team has conducted rescue excavations at historical and cultural heritage sites throughout its history.

Rescue excavations are carried out at archaeological sites that require immediate protection from destruction due to various circumstances. Destruction of monuments can be anthropogenic (intentional destruction or accidental damage during the construction of roads, buildings, etc.) or have natural causes leading to the monument's deterioration.

During the development of domestic archaeology, several construction expeditions were organized. As a result, numerous monuments were studied during the construction of the Shulbinsk Reservoir, conservation work was carried out on monuments discovered during the construction of the Beineu-Shymkent pipeline, and the West-East highway program, among many other rescue operations.
