Employees of the Institute of Archaeology held a scientific seminar for the residents of Kazaly.

On May 12, a scientific seminar titled “New Research on the Stone Age of the Aral Region” was held at the Kazalinsk District Museum of History and Local Lore. The event was organized jointly by the museum staff and researchers the Aral Region Stone Age Research Team of Margulan Institute of Archaeology I. Kurmaniyazov, R. Aminova, and V. Volovenko.

During the seminar, the participants presented the results of ongoing research conducted within the framework of the IRN AP22788840 project “Archaeological Research of Stone Age Sites in the Eastern Aral Region,” led by S.Zh. Rakhimzhanova.

I.S. Kurmaniyazov spoke about new archaeological discoveries in the Aral Karakum area and the Northern Aral region, administratively located within the Aral and Kazaly districts of the Kyzylorda Region. He also discussed archaeological survey methods and the prospects for further research in the region.

R.N. Aminova presented modern methods for the analysis of stone artifacts and the results of recent experimental studies. During the presentation, participants were shown artifacts dating to different periods of the Stone Age, and a small мастер-class on bone engraving using an experimental tool was conducted.

V.D. Volovenko introduced methods for the digitalization of archaeological information and demonstrated the results of the team’s work, including topographic plans, orthophotographs, and 3D models of archaeological sites in the studied region. The presentation concluded with a drone demonstration.

The seminar was attended by museum staff, history teachers, and local school students. At the end of the event, an active discussion took place, during which participants showed great interest in the study of the archaeological heritage of their native region.
