Akhinzhanov Serzhan (1939-1991)

Akhinzhanov Serzhan was born in 1939. In 1964 he graduated with honors from the Faculty of History of the Lomonosov Moscow State University with a degree in archaeology. In 1965 - 1968 he studied at the postgraduate school at the Institute of History, Archaeology and Ethnography named after Ch.Valikhanov of the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR. In 1973, S.Akhinzhanov defended his Candidate's thesis on the topic: "Kipchaks and their political relationship with Khorezm in the 11th-13th centuries". Since 1977, he has been a Senior Researcher at the Department of Archaeology, and since 1984 - Head of the Laboratory of Archaeological Technology of the Institute of History, Archaeology and Ethnography. S. Akhinzhanov developed the scientific and theoretical foundations of nomadic studies, the results of the study of this problem were reflected in his monographic works. For many years, he headed one of the detachments of the South Kazakhstan complex archaeological expedition. From 1982 to 1986, he led the work of the Shulba expedition in East Kazakhstan and the Central Kazakhstan Archaeological Expedition. In 1989, he represented Kazakhstan's historical science at the international exhibition "Nomads of the Eurasian Steppes" in Hanover, Germany.
He is the author of more than 50 scientific and research works on the history of the Middle Ages and archaeology of Kazakhstan.
He died in 1991.
