In 1969 started working in Institute of geological sciences named after K.I.Satpaev in sector of Quaternary geology and geomorphology in group of Paleolithic study, under direction of outstanding scientist Alan Georgievich Medoev.
In 1970 she entered the S.M.Kirov Kazakh State University in Geographical department and graduated from it in 1976 with honours thesis on "Paleogeography of Tyub-Karagan in Pleistocene".
Since 1990 till the present time O.A.Artyukhova has been working at Institute of Archeology named after A.Kh.Margulan. Over the years she has worked her way up from junior researcher to leading researcher. 
In 1992 she defended her thesis for the degree of Candidate of Historical Sciences on the topic "Moustiers of Central and Southern Kazakhstan" (supervisor of studies was V.A.Ranov, the outstanding researcher of the Stone Age of the Central Asia (Dushanbe), official opponent was V.P.Lyubin, the famous expert on the Paleolithic of the Caucasus (St. Petersburg).  
O.A. Artyukhova took part in field studies of Institute of geological sciences and institute of archaeology. She took part in discovering of Paleolithic monuments in Aral sea region, in mountains of Zailiiskiy Alatau (Aktogay 1-6 locations), Rakhat, in Southern Kazakhstan (Koshkurgan), in Western Kazakhstan (Paleolithic multilayer site of Eshkitau, Mesolithic site of New Kazanka), in Central Kazakhstan (Muksteer site of Burma, multilayer site of Toktaul, late Paleolithic location of Ulken Jezdy) etc. 
O.A.Artyukhova's main scientific interest is the Stone Age of Kazakhstan. In recent years she has been working on the processing and introduction into science of the collections obtained by A.G.Medoev (Semizbugu, Khantau, Shakhbagata and others).
