INFORMATION LETTER

Dear colleagues!

We invite you to take part in the International Scientific and Practical Conference “Margulan Readings–2026”, which is scheduled to be held on 18–20 March 2026 in Almaty at the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.

Within the framework of this traditional conference, current issues in archaeological science and related disciplines – such as paleoanthropology, archaeogenetic, archaeometallurgy, archaeozoology, archaeobotany, digital archaeology and AI, GIS, conservation, restoration, and reconstruction – will be discussed.

A roundtable will also be held, where the amendments and additions introduced in 2025 to certain legislative acts of the Republic of Kazakhstan concerning the protection of historical and cultural heritage sites will be presented.

The main objective of the conference is to introduce new results of archaeological research into scholarly circulation and to promote the implementation of advanced methodologies.

Working languages of the conference: Kazakh, Russian, English.

Based on the results of the conference, two publications are planned:  
1.    Conference Proceedings "Margulan Readings–2026" by the end of April 2026;
2.    Annual Collection "Field Research in Kazakhstan. 2025" by the start of the conference.

Analytical articles summarizing research and the results of interdisciplinary studies are accepted for inclusion in the conference proceedings “Margulan Readings–2026”. Manuscripts must be formatted in accordance with the requirements for inclusion in the List of International Scientific Conferences (List 5) of the Register of Publications recommended for disseminating the results of scientific work by the Committee for Quality Assurance in Science and Higher Education of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan (Appendix 1).

Articles that present only factual information on material obtained during archaeological fieldwork, without an in-depth analytical section, will be published in the annual collection “Field Research in Kazakhstan. 2025” (Appendix 2).

This publication is intended to introduce into scholarly circulation new data from field investigations, which also contributes to establishing scientific connections between organizations engaged in fieldwork and research centers and laboratories conducting thematic studies and requiring new field materials.

PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT AND PUBLICATION OF PROCEEDINGS

To meet the requirements for publications included in List 5 of the register of recommended editions for publication by the Committee for Quality Assurance in Science and Higher Education of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, it is necessary to submit application forms, completed according to the attached template, by 18 December 2025. The conference program will be prepared no later than 18 February 2026.
