
Yuri Trifonov (1940-1989)
Yuri Trifonov was born on August 27, 1940 in the city of Gorky. In 1965, he graduated from the Department of Archaeology of the Historical Faculty of Leningrad State University.
In 1965-1977, he worked at the Gorky Travel and Excursion Bureau, at the All-Union Research Laboratory for the Restoration and Conservation of Historical and Cultural Monuments, at the Leningrad Branch of the Institute of Archaeology of the USSR Academy of Sciences. During all this time, he took an active part in various archaeological expeditions, mainly in Siberia (Tuva, Khakassia), where he led a detachment as part of the Sayano-Tuva expedition for ten years (1965-1974). The topic of his Candidate's dissertation was "Nomads of East Kazakhstan in the 8th-12th centuries. (Based on the materials of funerary monuments)".
Since 1978, after moving to Alma-Ata and employment in the Ch. Valikhanov Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR, Yu. Trifonov participated in archaeological expeditions of the Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR - in Shulba and Alma-Ata archaeological expeditions. In 1980, he was hired at the IHAE as an engineer of the archaeology sector on a contractual topic, and since 1985, he became a Junior Researcher on a competition.
Yu. Trifonov took part in the work of the SKCAE, was the head of the detachment.
Yuri Trifonov dealt with the problems of ancient and medieval archaeology of the nomadic peoples of Siberia and Kazakhstan, he published over 20 works. He presented reports at All-Union and regional conferences.
He died in September 1989.
