
Yuri Motov (26.02.1949 - 12.01.2016)
Yuri Motov was born on February 26, 1949 in the village of Zavodsky in the Troitsky district of the Altai Krai. In 1973-1977, he studied at the historical faculty of the Kazakh Pedagogical Institute named after Abai, underwent archaeological training with I. Kopylov, taking part in the research of the Talgar settlement. After graduating from KazPI, he joined the Institute "Kazproektrestavratsiya"; participated in archaeological research of Tamgaly and the city of Turkestan. In 1980, he was hired at the Ch. Valikhanov IHAE; in 1980-1986, he took part in the research of the SKCAE. In 1986-1991, he worked as the head of the Department of Archaeology of the Central State Museum of Kazakhstan. In 1991, he was hired again at the Margulan Institute of Archaeology as a Senior Researcher. He worked in a number of expeditions, specialized in the problems of nomad culture, author of a number of articles.
He died in Almaty on 12.01.2016.
