
Mikhail Merschiev
Mikhail Merschiev was born in 1918. In 1938, he entered the Central Asian State University (CASU) in Tashkent at the Faculty of History. In 1941, he was drafted into the ranks of the Soviet Army, fought in a war. Since June 1942 until April 1945, he was held captive in concentration camps in Germany, the last of which was Dachau. In 1946, he continued his studies at the Central Asian State University in Tashkent and graduated in 1948. He worked at the Department of Archaeology of the CASU, participated in the work of the Turkmenistan Archaeological expedition of the Academy of Sciences of the Turkmen SSR. Since 1959, he worked at the Institute of History, Archaeology and Ethnography named after Ch. Valikhanov. In 1967, he defended his Candidate's thesis on the topic "On the history of the development of settled areas of cities in the south of Kazakhstan". From 1971 to 1974, he worked as a member of the SKCAE, led a detachment, conducted excavations at the Otrartobe, Kalamtobe, and Pshakshitobe settlements.
