Maksimova Anna was born on December 29, 1923 in the city of Stalinsk (now Novokuznetsk), Kemerovo region. In 1942-1946, she studied at the Lomonosov Moscow State University at the Department of Archaeology of the Faculty of History. 
After successfully graduating from the university, she was invited by the first President of the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR K. Satpayev to work at the IHAE of the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR; in 1946, she was enrolled as a Head of the Department of Paleolithic. 
All her further scientific work was devoted to the issues of primitive archaeology of Kazakhstan. In the work "East Kazakhstan in the Bronze Age", for the first time for the eastern regions of Kazakhstan, she developed a periodization of history and a chronological classification of cultural monuments of tribes of the Bronze Age. In 1960, in Moscow, she defended her Candidate's thesis on this topic at Moscow State University. 
A. Maksimova was one of the main compilers of the book-monograph "Archaeological Map of Kazakhstan" and one of the leading authors of the first volume of the "History of the Kazakh SSR". She took part in the work of many archaeological expeditions on the territory of Kazakhstan, including in 1947-1954 - EKAE, head of the detachment; in 1952 - CKAE, head of the detachment; in 1955 - Pavlodar AE, head of the detachment; in 1956 - SAE IHAE of the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR; in 1956-1957 - head of a separate Semirechye detachment; in 1957-1959 - SKAE, head of the detachment; in 1960-1961 - Chardara AE, head of the expedition; in 1962 - SAE, head of the Chardara group; in 1971-1972 - SKCAE.
She died on November 11, 2002.
