Tulegen Nurumov
Tulegen Nurumov was born on January 1, 1930 in the village of Novaya Kazanka (Zhanakazan) of the Zhanakala district of the Ural region.
From 1947 to 1952, he studied at the Biology and Soil Faculty of the Kazakh State University named after Kirov, specialized in zoology and paleozoology.
From 1952 to 1953, he studied at the graduate school of the Institute of Zoology of the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR.
From 1953 to 1958, he worked as the head of the educational department, director of the secondary school of working youth in Mezhdurechensk, Kemerovo region.
From 1958 to 1968, he worked as a Junior Researcher, scientific secretary of the Institute of Zoology of the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR; he also was one of the main creators and the first head of the Museum of Nature of this institution.
From 1968 to 1983, he worked as a scientific editor, senior scientific editor of the Editorial Board of Biology, Chemistry, Medicine and Agriculture of the Main Editorial Office of the Kazakh Soviet Encyclopedia.
From 1984 to 1989, he worked in the laboratory of Archaeological Technology of the Institute of History, Archaeology and Ethnography of the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR. T. Nurumov was one of the performers of the section of the planned complex topic "Ancient metallurgical production mining in Central Kazakhstan in the Bronze Age and Early Iron and their impact on the ethnosociocultural processes of the region" at the Institute of Archaeology. In 1984-1985, he participated in the Central Kazakhstan Complex Archaeological Expedition (CKCAE), was engaged in the determination of bone remains of animals. T. Nurumov examined animal bones found on different sites, such as – Atasu, Myrzhyk, Ak-Mustafa, Ak-Maya, Izmailovo, Molaly, Shubarat, Botai, Toksanbai, Berel, etc.
In 1984-1985, he studied bone collections in museums, including osteological materials from the fund of the Tselinograd Regional Museum (2592 pcs.), animal bones from the fund of the Petropavlovsk Regional Museum (60,000 pcs.), a collection of bones found in the settlement of Terenkara, organized by the Institute of Kazproektrestavratsiya (267 pcs.), etc. During the expedition, he lectured on the topic: "The history of the development of the animal world of Kazakhstan." T. Nurumov continued his paleozoological research within the walls of the Institute and beyond, even after retirement. For example, in 1997, he analyzed the osteological collection of Z. Samashev found in the settlement of Toksanbai and published the results in collaboration with L. Makarova.
T. Nurumov published one monograph (co-authored by S. Akhinzhanov and L. Makarova) and two scientific articles based on the results of the study of osteological materials discovered during archaeological research. In addition, he published seven scientific articles on paleobiology, zoology and articles on biology, zoology, chemistry, medicine in the Kazakh Soviet Encyclopedia (volumes 1-12 from 1972-1978).
Tulegen Nurumov died on December 12, 2007 in Astana.
